Fondly known as the Auld Grey Toon, there is a magic about St Andrews that is hard to describe, but which keeps people coming back time and time again, whether to play the world-famous golf courses, explore the historic sites, or enjoy walks along the sandy beaches.

From family-friendly spots and cultural attractions to independent shops and cafés, the town centre is a bustling hub, complete with galleries, restaurants and some truly beautiful buildings.

Whether you're seeking a quick snack in the afternoon or evening dining, there is an abundance of pubs and bars in St Andrews that cater to every palate. Seafood restaurants, independent cafés, Scottish cuisine and more can be found within the town.

University

Founded in 1413, the University of St Andrews is Scotland’s oldest university and is well-known for its award-winning education. The University’s distinguished St Salvator's Quadrangle is only a 5-minute walk from Priorsgate Apartments.

Botanical Garden

The St Andrews Botanical Gardens are situated on the banks of the wooded Kinness Burn in the Canongate area of St Andrews. They are home to over 8,000 different species of plants across an 18-acre space.

The World Golf Museum

Discover the world's premier golf heritage centre, just yards from the famous Old Course in St Andrews. The British Golf Museum is home to some of the greatest pieces of golfing significance, celebrating the past, present and future of the game.

Aquarium

St Andrews Aquarium showcases a captivating collection of reptiles, amphibians, and marine life. Conveniently situated just a 10-minute stroll from Priorsgate Apartments, overlooking the beautiful West Sands beach, it offers easy access to a mesmerising underwater world.

Distillery

See where some of Scotland’s finest spirits are brewed and go behind the scenes to sample some of their exceptional collections. Visit Eden Mill brewery and distillery in nearby Guardbridge, or Kingbarns, home of Darnley’s Gin and its own Lowland single malts.

V&A Museum

In under 30 minutes you can be at the impressive V&A in Dundee, Scotland’s first and only design museum, hosting a wide variety of artefacts and exhibits, from historical clothing and film costumes to one of a kind pieces from famous Scottish artists. Look out for its superb changing exhibitions in addition to the permanent collection.

St Andrews Cathedral

The remains of St Andrews Cathedral can be seen from the Priorsgate Apartments - they really are just a stone’s throw away. St Andrews Cathedral was once Scotland’s largest cathedral, and the ruins today show just how impressive it once was. Climb St Rule’s Tower for the best views of the town, bay and beyond.

Surf School

Blown Away specialises in beach-based activities and is fast becoming one of Scotland’s most established activity providers. Blown Away is based on the West Sands in St Andrews and offers exciting water-sports adventures including surfing, kayaking and paddle boarding.

Home of Golf

Feel at home in the Home of Golf, the town where the game was first played in the early 15th century. The town is regarded internationally as the spiritual home of the sport, and each year welcomes golfers and fans from around the world to play the links courses and immerse themselves in the historical lore.  The famous Old Course, St Andrews, is just a 15-minute walk from Priorsgate self catering apartments, and has hosted The Open Championship 30 times since 1873 - the most times hosting of any course, most recently with the 150th Open in 2022. Beyond the town itself, the Kingdom of Fife is home to over 45 golf courses, including Dumbarnie Links and other favourites.  For golfing groups and all visitors alike, Priorsgate offers the ideal base for a break in the home of the game, from the central location to the bespoke golf storage facilities.
